How we feel about the work we do or the ventures we’re involved in can have a tremendous impact on our happiness and the quality of our life. I write about this quite a bit on Wake Up and Start Living, simply because most of us spend about eight hours a day doing just that, working.
Today, I’d like to talk about being excellent at what you do and how it can improve the quality of your life. Let’s dive right in.
You Have What It Takes
First of all, allow me to remind you that you have what it takes to achieve your goals and dreams. I’ll go even further by saying that I am convinced that you have what it takes even though most of us have never met in real life. Why am I saying this?
Part of the reason I can get excited about other people’s projects, ideas, and goals is because I see the potential in these people when they talk about their goals and dreams. People enthusiastic about their goals and dreams emanate that enthusiasm and energy, you can see the potential in their eyes. These people, every one of you, are the foundation to success and excellence.
Truly successful and innovative corporations and business realize that it’s the people involved that make their business a success. They realize it’s all about people, that is, clients, customers, employees, … The idea for a revolutionary product comes from people, not computers.
Hard work, passion, and creativity are all attributable to the people involved.
Wouldn’t it be great if you only had to focus on the goal or dream you were trying to achieve or realize? By accepting, realizing that you have what it takes, you can!
Eliminate Your Fear
When you want to achieve a specific goal or dream, you don’t need to remind yourself of all the things that can go wrong along the way. Preparation and doing proper research is often necessary, but there’s a difference between informing yourself and preparing yourself for everything that can possibly go wrong.
It’s like an athlete running a marathon. He knows he can get injured, but that doesn’t mean he protects himself against every possible danger because it would slow him down significantly.
In other words, it would prevent him from being excellent in running. He prepares for his goal whilst acknowledging what can go wrong, but not fearing it. He is focused on his goal.
Don’t think about failure as a possibility. Chances are you will never have to deal with the doom scenarios you picture in your mind. Think about this for a moment, how crazy is it to think about failure before you have even started working on your goal, project, or dream?
How destructive is it to undermine your potential by thinking about the possibility that you don’t have the potential to achieve your dreams and goals? Do you realize you are creating your own failure by fearing failure?
Time and time again, I do my best to convince people that they have the potential to do anything in life they wish to do, that they have all it takes to live the life they dream of.
We can all come up with ‘buts’, however (trying to avoid ‘but’ here), aren’t these just camouflaged excuses to not take action? What keeps you from taking action to get closer to your dream or goal?
Aim For Excellence
Imagine you do want to take action to reach your goals and dreams, but imagine that you are also loaded with prejudices, doubts, and fears, do you really expect to deliver excellent or remarkable results while loaded with excess ballast on your back?
Think about the marathon runner again. Life has taught me a lot, but one of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that you get what you work for. If you want to reach a specific goal or realize a dream, you’ll need to do two key things:
(1) realize that you have the potential to reach that goal and
(2) aim for excellence.
I have written about the first thing in a previous post. Why the second element is so important is simple really, dreams and goals are never average if they are worth living for. True dreams and goals are excellent, outstanding, bold, or whatever it is that boggles your imagination.
Dreams and goals that are worth working for are better than you imagine them to be when they become reality.
Are you aiming for excellence?
